Reframing — being all STRESSED out

 

We see stressed people passing by us everyday. It is likely we are the stressed passing others by as we travel from this pressure point to the next. According to a upsetting report by American Psychological Association, American Institute of Stress, NY published April 6, 2012 a full 77% of Americans report having experienced physical symptoms caused by stress on a regular basis.

Stress is complicated and is gradually steeling our quality of life, damaging our relationships, crumbling our careers, diminishing our positive impact on those under our influence, and ruining our health. There is no simple answer to our stress problem, yet there are some tools that each of us can deploy that will reduce stresses negative impact.

I Love You :-)

Love is …

 

“Happy Valentines Day, I love you”,  this statement will be used over and over again today. For some, it is the echo of their heart for another that is expressed continuously through the year. Yet, for others it is just mere words that have little or no meaning.

 

When “I love you” is said and there has been nothing done prior to the use of them they carry the potential of pain and disappointment. The old adage of “sticks and stones, they may hurt me, but words can not” is not true! Using the three words … I Love You should be the expression of thoughts, feelings, and action already lived over time.

 

There are at least four actions that give credibility to the words I Love You.

 

Number 1

Live your life in such a way that if you never could write or say the words I Love You it would be evident that you do.

 

Number 2

Open the lines of clear communication between you and those that you say I Love You to. Remember communication is less about what you say and more about what they hear. It is interesting that (most of us) have two ears and one mouth. Could this be an everlasting signal that we are supposed to listen twice as long as we talk?

 

Number 3

Value the people you are saying I Love You above and beyond yourself and your agenda. High value is demonstrated in where you spend your 1440 minutes that allotted to us each day.

 

Number 4

Elevate those that you say I Love You through your words and actions that demonstrate that you want their best and peace give them power to step up to and be their best.

Stressed out and Over-Committed

Stressed out and Over-Committed

 

StressedWhile standing in line at It’s a Grind coffee in Elk Grove this morning I over heard two people talking about their schedules. During their brief “line” chat both had their smart phones out checking their text or emails, talking with each other, and preparing to order their caffeine for the morning.

 

“Yes, I have been very busy the last few days. I have not had a day off for the past 8 days” said the one to the other. “My schedule has been packed with the kids sports, a kitchen remodel, and project dead lines at work” respond the other man. While this is happening I am thinking about something that the presenter Jeremy Hunter, PhD said Friday at the Nixon Presidential Library. “No one can multi-task and be at the optimum efficiency”.

 

In our busy lives we have adjusted to accept stress and a daily part of our life. We take medicate to manage the consequences of stress. We medicate in different ways, some take prescription medication, while others resort to drinking alcoholic beverages in and over abundant manner, some over or under eat, and others _______________ (you fill in the blank).

 

During extended times of stress we experience a phenomenon called Attention Deficit Trait or ADT. This is now an epidemic among organizations. It is not a medical condition or clinical conditions such as ADD (attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder) that can be treated with medication.

 

ADT cannot be controlled through medication. It must be treated through changing our thinking, actions, and habits.

 

Beginning February 12, 2013 we will begin talking about ADT on our live Thought-Filled Tuesday call in program.
